Scholar Universe is a database for locating academic, international, and scientific experts

Scholar Universe™ Crawler

With more than 1,000,000 profiles, Scholar Universe™ is the largest available collection of searchable profiles covering active full-time faculty. Spanning over 200 disciplines and 8 countries, each profile in Scholar Universe is regularly reviewed for accuracy and currency to provide only the most relevant and timely expert access for publishers, journalists, and academic libraries.

Scholar and Organization Profiles are compiled using publicly available information, information provided by the scholars themselves, along with licensed content. Links to scholars' homepages and affiliation websites provide additional information on the scholars while promoting the institution with which they are affiliated.

Scholar Universe™ is used by Academic Libraries, Scholarly & Academic Publishers, and media organization.

Access Policy

In order to provide our users with the most accurate scholarly experts, we crawl selected web pages once per month. The content we collect is used for search purposes. We do not show the full text for any of the pages we fetch.

If you have questions about the way we use your web content, or if you do not want us to fetch content from your site anymore, please email us. We use Nutch to fetch web content. Nutch obeys robots.txt files and robot META tags in HTML. These are the standard mechanisms for webmasters to tell web robots which portions of a site a robot is welcome to access.

Blocking our Crawler using robots.txt

Our software obeys the robots.txt exclusion standard, described at To ban our crawler from your site, place the following in your /robots.txt file:
User-agent: ScholarUniverse
Disallow: /

Blocking our Crawler using Robots META

If you do not have permission to edit the /robots.txt file on your server, you can still tell robots not to index your pages or follow your links. The standard mechanism for this is the robots META tag, as described at
