Our unique technologies and processes recognize that authors - typically researchers and educators - are the critical information source for any profession or field of study. We believe that authors represent the single unifying locus for all scholarly content, and as such deserve a standardized and dedicated partner to broadly distribute their professional electronic representations.

Authority Profiles:
Authority Profiles are developed around specific professional disciplines or fields of study. Each Profile is a digital model of a particular author, faculty member, or academic and research institution that trains future members of a profession - in short, the community of people and institutions responsible for the majority of content created within a profession.
Organization Authority Profiles include information on leading academic and research institutions, their contact information, and staff member lists. All information included within Organization Authority Profiles is gathered from publicly available sources.
Author and faculty Authority Profiles include information on members of an organization, including member names, and may also include affiliation, professional title or rank, contact information, interests, and/or links to publication lists or curriculum vitae. All information included within Author Profiles is gathered either from publicly available sources, content licensing partnerships, or directly from individual authors via our Scholar Feedback interface.
Use of Authority Profiles:
Author Authority Profiles are available for search by Scholar members through ScholarUniverse.com. Content within Scholar Universe is actively integrated within scholarly and professional literature databases, enabling broadest distribution of Authority Profile content with the literature record. This connection is accomplished through the Scholar Universe Community Server™ (SCS), a syndication engine for Community Profile information that employs a patent-pending process to link authors and their publication citations. Author Authority Profiles are enriched through the inclusion of direct linkages with publication citations in particular citation databases.
Scholar Universe licenses Authority Profiles to partners holding citation databases for the express and sole purpose of integrating community and content through the SCS to enhance the research process by increasing access to community and exposure to relevant information.
Authority Profile content is also provided directly to academic libraries to provide searchable research community access and direct linkage to full text from profiles. In addition, Community search solutions based on Scholar Universe content is made available to scholarly publishers to assist in the identification of reviewers and to organizations seeking access to research expertise.
SCS Activity Information Collection:
Scholar Universe collects information regarding Profile search activity by users of SCS. Information collected about SCS users by Scholar Universe contains no personally identifying information and is used for internal purposes by our technical staff, to report usage and activity to database partners whose citations have been integrated with the Community Authority Profiles, and to report usage activity to authors as part of the feedback and update communication (see Data Security and Accuracy section). Usage statistics reported to an author will include information on how often his/her Profile is accessed along with information on what publications are being accessed and how frequently.
Scholar Universe's Commitment to Data Security and Accuracy:
Personal information that is collected or that you provide to Scholar Universe is secured to prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of Community Authority Profile information. We have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online consistent with industry best practices.
Scholar Universe invites authors to provide us with updates and new linking information through our voluntary Scholar Feedback process to enrich the accuracy, coverage, and currency of their Author Authority Profiles. Authors also have the opportunity to identify additional publications to include within their Profile. Authors are under no obligation to engage in the Scholar Feedback process and can elect to stop receiving communications from Scholar Universe regarding the ongoing updating of their Profiles. In the absence of and in conjunction with direct feedback from authors, all efforts will be made to maintain the currency and accuracy of the Community Authority Profiles using publicly available information.
